Braindump
The public slice of my notes — things I’ve read, argued with, or worked out for myself, kept in one linked pile rather than written up as essays.
I’m a doctor in Australia. My medical notes live here, and the pieces I’ve actually finished are on my blog. Notes here are written for me first. Some are a paragraph I haven’t come back to; a few have been rewritten a dozen times. Each one says which it is:
- Seedling — a thought I’ve had once and not tested.
- Budding — worked over more than once, still moving.
- Evergreen — I’ve stopped changing my mind about it.
Links to notes I haven’t made public appear as plain text rather than dead links, so you can see where an idea continues even when the note itself isn’t here yet.
Where to start
- Productivity
- What I actually do, and why most of the advice is beside the point.
- Studying
- How I learned to learn, mostly the hard way.
- Maps of Content
- Notes gathered around a single idea, if you don’t know what you’re looking for.
Recently planted
- Alone time isn't exposure therapy for loneliness because you chose it and it ends
- Complications: A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science
- Removing access to distraction works better than trying to tolerate boredom
- Writing without an output isn't worth doing
Everything else is in the index, which you can filter.
Why this exists
Writing a note down is how I find out whether I actually think it. Publishing them is a way of making myself finish the sentence.
